Tianyang (Timmy) Gao: Violin

Tianyang Gao, born September 1992 in Nantong, China, loves music when he was a kid. He was a born violinist. He started learning to play the violin at the age of five. Young as he is, he was strong passion of music and musical feelings. He was under the tutor Ms. Fang Lei, professor of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, in 2000. He won the first Prize on the ‘solo Violin Competition’(Shanghai area) in 2001. As first-rated scores, he entered the elementary school affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 2002. During his stay at school, he was excellent on his major as well as academic lessons. He has performed on many occasions of school exchanges. Many professors from abroad have also instructed him. The cooperation between him and the Shanghai Opera Orchestra in the He luting Concert Hall has attracted much attention. In July 2005, he was approved to enter The Music Middle School without entrance examinations. Besides he also Won the second prize of the Junior group on the “National Violin Competition” which was held in September 2006. And he was honored to get the special Prize for playing the Chinese composition excellently. In 2013, he went to the Kneisel Hall Music Festival. In 2014, He was one of the finalists of Schoenfeld Violin Competition. He finished his Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Juilliard from 2011 to He studied with Ronald Copes (Chair of the string department in Juilliard), Laurie Smukler, Sylvia Rosenberg, Josef Lin. When he was in school, he already had recitals in many famous concert halls in US including Carnegie Hall, David Gaffen Hall, Alice Tully Hall and etc. He started teaching when he was in high school. He had numerous students whom got excellent result in NYSSMA and ABRSM exams. His teaching range is from 3 years old to 72 years old.
