Gul Jang: Bassoon
Mr. Gul Jang, Korean-born and New York City-based Bassoonist and conductor is described as active orchestra and chamber musician and conductor.
He earned his Bachelor of music at Chung Ang University with distinguished orchestra performer scholarship. During his college years, he was appointed as principal Bassoon player at Gwa-Cheon Youth Symphony orchestra and performed as substitute player in numerous professional orchestras such as Kyong-gi Philharmonic, Korean Philharmonic and Cheong-Ju City Symphony Orchestra. He made his solo debut with Gwa-cheon Youth Symphony performing Weber Bassoon Concerto. He was the 1st prize winner of Han-Jeon Art Center Competition. Internationally, he attended Tokyo International Music Festival performing several concerts in Tokyo.
After moving to New York, Mr. Jang earned his masters degree at Aaron copland school of music at Queens College and Artistic diploma at State University of New York at Purchase under the direction of his mentor Mark Goldberg, who is the members of Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. He was the recipient of chamber music live with high distinguish award, disimus ut serviamus award. He gave his solo recital in Lefrak Concert Hall the White plain performing Arts Center recital Hall. In 2008, he was selected as a soloist by world renowned conductor, maestro Charles Neidich, and performed Mozart Bassoon Concerto with Queens Chamber Orchestra under the direction of maestro Neidich.
In New York, He has been appointed as the principal Bassoon player of Ureuk symphony, New Burgh Symphony, New York Symphony, One World Symphony and New Jersey Philharmonic orchestra. He has been also working as principal guest bassoon player in Queens College orchestra.
As a Chamber musician, he is the bassoon player of Sonata da Chiesa and performing numerous chamber music in tristate area. He is an also very active Jazz musician that he is a member of New York Korean Jazz Orchestra playing the Baritone Saxophone.
Currently, he is holding the music director position of Joyful Symphonic Band.
